Case Study: BCI Acrylic

How BCI Acrylic Dramatically Improved Candidate Quality With Spark Hire Video Interviews

About BCI Acrylic

BCI Acrylic was founded with the purpose of creating better solutions for homeowners and commercial organizations that were unhappy with the bathroom remodeling options on the market. They developed a better model, and have grown into one of the largest independent manufacturers of acrylic bath renovation products and related accessories. Many things change when a company grows, but their mission to provide exceptional, affordable products is still the same. BCI Acrylic is the trusted choice for durable, stylish bath systems.

Goals for Video Interviewing

Looking for a better way to evaluate candidates, the team at BCI Acrylic realized there was a fundamental barrier to candidate evaluation: inconsistent interviewing. Relying on applications only or interview notes where interviewers might not have even asked the same question meant the team missed out on vital information. With a consistent, repeatable interview, the team could create more fair and higher quality candidate evaluations.

Q&A with HR Manager, Lois R Lloyd:

Q:

What inspired you to look into video interviewing? Were there specific challenges in your day to day were you looking to solve with video interviewing?

A:

We were looking for a repeatable, consistent way to interview. We'd found our previous interview screens varied and we might not get the same info from every candidate. Without consistency in screening interviews, we lacked a measurable and fair way to evaluate candidates.

Q:

Did Spark Hire replace a similar tool or is this the first time your team is using video interviewing?

A:

Spark Hire was our first time for video interviewing at BCI Acrylic.

Q:

What criteria did you have in mind for a video interviewing solution?

A:

We wanted a platform that was easy to use for both HR and applicants. We also wanted a platform that was of good quality and had good support.

Q:

What made you choose Spark Hire as your video interviewing solution?

A:

The Spark Hire team demonstrated that it's an easy to use tool. They also have great reviews and the support staff is engaged, more than capable of helping and supporting the product.

Q:

What was getting started with Spark Hire like?

A:

It was very easy for us to get started. Spark Hire itself is user friendly and our applicants were able to use the tool with very few exceptions.

Q:

How has Spark Hire improved your hiring metrics and process?

A:

Spark Hire definitely saves us time and brings higher quality applicants in the door. We've found we avoid wasting time with the casual applicant, because casual applicants don't invest the time to do a Spark Hire interview! Another key difference is the ability to judge someone's professionalism and demeanor in a one-way interview. We can see their attention to detail and it's very obvious if candidates have done their research or are just 'winging' it.

Q:

What was your team’s hiring process prior to using Spark Hire?

A:

Occasionally we'd complete phone interviews, but often simply bring someone in on the basis of their application. We wasted a lot of time on people who would not have made it past a one-way video interview!

Q:

Why should other hiring teams look into video interviewing?

A:

Video interviews are a time saving tool that allows a hiring team to look at an initial interview at their leisure. Teams don't have to juggle multiple schedules for an interview. Also, Spark Hire gives you the opportunity to ask the same questions, in the same order, and make sure you get the same answers to the same questions. Consistent answers mean you evaluate applicants based on the applicant pool; not based on whether or not the phone interviewer or initial screener asked consistent questions or wrote down answers correctly!

Q:

What are three words that describe your experience working with Spark Hire?

A:

Easy, repeatable, and reliable
