The school district is a learning community, providing opportunities for all students and staff to reach their learning potentials.

Goals for Video Interviewing

Canyon Independent School District is a rapidly growing school district in Texas, and knew they would be staffing new schools with more regularity. They wanted to improve their hiring process to spend their time on the most qualified candidates. Their peers at Amarillo Independent School District suggested they look at video interviewing with Spark Hire to achieve that goal.

Q&A with Coordinator of Human Resources, Paige TeBeest and Director of Human Resources, Paul Kimbrough

Q:

What inspired you to look into video interviewing?

A:

Our district is currently growing. We have a new school that’s opening this fall, an intermediate school, and we are looking at expanding even further. We have about 10,000 students and gaining about 2% every year. We are going to be adding some other buildings as well. My coordinator and I do all the preliminary interviews and we’ve just found ourselves getting backlogged. We needed something that would process our applicants a lot faster.

Q:

What are some of the results you’ve seen with Spark Hire?

A:

The results have been amazing. If we have somebody who completes their online video application and the other processes the applicant has to go through, we are getting our preliminary interviews done in two to three days.

Q:

What was your team’s hiring process prior to using Spark Hire?

A:

We were spending a lot of time doing preliminary interviews at the office. Which - while fun, we enjoyed having those interactions - but we were not able to get to a whole lot of people, like we are with Spark Hire.

Q:

What is the biggest impact that video interviewing has on your hiring process?

A:

The benefits have definitely been getting through more applicants, which has allowed us to have a better pool of applicants that are process completed and available to be interviewed by our principals.

Q:

Why should other schools and school districts look into video interviewing?

A:

It’s becoming more and more competitive to find the best teachers out there and obviously every district tries to get the best people to work with kids. Spark Hire is a great avenue to find the best teachers out there. I would also encourage them to contact other districts that have used Spark Hire. That’s going to be their best source to find out very critical information on the benefits of using this tool.

Q:

What is your favorite aspect of video interviewing?

A:

On a daily basis, our applicants go in, apply, and as we’re processing them, we send them the video interview link. They get the invitation, complete it, and we watch the interviews. It’s a daily occurance.
