Q&A with Founder & CEO, Matt Meltzer

Q:

What inspired you to look into video interviewing? For example, were there specific challenges in your day to day process that influenced you to look into video interviewing?

A:

As our program grew these last few years and we were seeing thousands of talented candidate applications, we had no ability to meet all of these exciting people from across the U.S. so we started looking for potential solutions to help us. We ultimately decided video interviews would be the best option.

Q:

Did Spark Hire replace a similar tool or is this the first time your team is using video interviewing?

A:

We had been doing video interviews through Skype, but we found the connection to be unreliable and really shaky. We also discovered recording the interview would be very valuable, especially where the videos are hosted in the cloud and easily accessible to our team.

Q:

What criteria did you have in mind for a video interviewing solution?

A:

Video quality - sound and picture were important, along with the ability to record and share the interviews amongst our team and evaluators.

Q:

What was your team’s process prior to using Spark Hire?

A:

We were scheduling interviews with applicants using a calendar tool, and then conducting video interviews over Skype.

Q:

Describe your selection process and what you found most attractive about Spark Hire when signing up.

A:

Spark Hire had the features that we were looking for (high quality videos, sharing, and ease-of-use), but honestly the kicker that convinced me to move my entire onboarding process was the sales pitch from Spark Hire's CEO, Josh, who actually was a camper years ago at my overnight camp. I think that personal trust and background relationship, for me, was critically important when I was comparing other potential solutions. In choosing Spark Hire and automating our interview process, we were running all of our potential "customers" - and our revenue model - through this new solution. My trust in Josh and his team was a key factor in my final decision.

Q:

What was getting started with Spark Hire like?

A:

Very easy - we received excellent customer service and attention to detail.

Q:

How does video interviewing fit into your process?

A:

It is critical to the process because we extend offers based primarily on the video interview.

Q:

What are some of the results you’ve seen with Spark Hire?

A:

We've been able to process 5X the number of interviews than before our shift to Spark Hire. We also have received great feedback from our applicants who appreciate the flexibility the platform offers with scheduling. Apart from allowing us to increase our interview output, we have also significantly decreased the number of hours our staff devotes to interviews. Time savings from Spark Hire freed up my team to tackle other issues, ultimately saving us thousands of dollars worth of employee time.

Q:

How do you get your team members to buy in to video interviewing?

A:

It saved them time, which they appreciated. It was an easy sell, actually.

Q:

What is the biggest impact that video interviewing has on your business?

A:

It saved us time and money.

Q:

What was your aha moment -- the moment you knew you loved Spark Hire?

A:

After the first month, we calculated the time saved - Spark Hire essentially eliminated a contractor position that I would have had to fill for the sole purpose of reviewing interviews.

Q:

Why should other organizations look into video interviewing?

A:

It saves the company significant time and money, and it gives applicants significant flexibility for completing their interview. Spark Hire's video interviewing is a win-win.

Q:

What is your favorite aspect of video interviewing?

A:

I love being able to see our applicants' enthusiasm for our program. And the ability to share the interviews with our whole team has continued to improve the quality of our candidates.

Q:

What are some things you love about Spark Hire?

A:

My favorite feature is sharing feature because it allows my team to review candidates’ one way interviews without logging in to the platform.

Q:

What are three words that describe your experience working with Spark Hire?

A:

My best investment.
