Q&A with Managing Director, Madeline Holland

Q:

What inspired you to look into video interviewing? What challenges in your day-to-day did you want to solve with video interviewing?

A:

Employers may have preconceived notions about refugees, and refugees may have non-traditional employment backgrounds. A brief video introduction is the perfect way for candidates to put their best foot forward and provide additional context to their CVs. TBB uses Spark Hire’s One-way Video Interview Technology to give refugee job candidates an opportunity to introduce themselves to potential employers.

Q:

How did you hear about Spark Hire?

A:

We were introduced to Spark Hire by one of our first employer partners, Iress, a global fintech company. Iress has hired three refugee software engineers through TBB.

Q:

How has Spark Hire improved your metrics and process?

A:

Spark Hire makes it possible for us to introduce more refugee candidates to employers. Time constraints mean employers are only able to meet a limited number of candidates for traditional live video interviews. Spark Hire’s One-way Video Interview Technology helps us demonstrate to employers that skilled refugees are as talented and experienced as other candidates, and results in more refugee candidates being considered for international jobs.

Q:

What was your team’s recruiting process prior to using Spark Hire?

A:

We’ve been using Spark Hire since our day one, in 2017. We quickly realized that showing employers a selection of One-way Video Interviews was the perfect way to break down stigma around refugees. Spark Hire gives our refugee candidates an opportunity to personally introduce themselves to employers and give themselves the best chance of success in the recruiting process. Put simply, it allows them to shine.

Q:

How do you facilitate video interviews? About how many have you conducted?

A:

The flexibility and accessibility of Spark Hire’s One-way Video Interview Technology is a great fit for our operating model. Most refugees can easily record videos at home on their computers or smartphones. If they have connectivity issues, we host them in our offices in Beirut and Amman. To date, TBB candidates have recorded more than 200 one-way interviews.

Q:

How would you describe your experience working with Spark Hire?

A:

We highly recommend Spark Hire’s products and are incredibly grateful for their generosity and support of our mission.
